There are 80 multiple choice questions on the AP U.S. History test.
The AP U.S. History exam tests your knowledge and understanding of the major periods, events and themes of the history of the United States. The course covers an extensive amount of material, and preparing for the exam can feel overwhelming. However, there are many resources available to you to help you prepare for the multiple choice section of the exam, which includes questions on the social, political, economic and cultural trends and specifics you have studied. The more you review the material, the more confident you will feel when it comes time to take the exam.
Instructions
1. Acquire a copy of the College Board's AP U.S. History Course Description booklet. The Fall 2010 version is available on the College Board's website.
2. Review the list of topics covered in the course, which can be found on pages 7 through 11 of the booklet. Ask yourself if you feel confident in your familiarity with each topic.
3. Study your notes from class or the chapters in your textbook about any of the topics on which you did not feel confident.
4. Set aside time to answer the practice multiple choice questions in the booklet, and ensure that you will not be disturbed while you work. On the AP exam, you will have 55 minutes to answer 80 multiple choice questions; the booklet includes 40 practice questions. To mimic the amount of time you will have on the test, give yourself 28 minutes to complete the questions.
5. Answer the practice multiple choice questions on pages 15 to 24 of the College Board's booklet. Take no longer than 28 minutes. Check your answers against the answer key on page 24 of the booklet.
6. Review your lecture notes and the textbook chapters about each question you missed. Be sure to study more than just the one fact you did not know; instead, increase your familiarity with the broader topic.
7. Acquire a study guide from a reputable AP guide company, such as the Princeton Review, Kaplan or Barron's, and take more practice tests.
