Bedroom Furniture Components

The bed is the primary piece of furniture for the bedroom.

Bedroom furniture is designed to provide a comfortable retreat from the activities of daily life. It provides a place to sleep at night and also includes components that assist with the storing of clothes and provide a place for the clock radio. Bedroom furniture is available for adults and also comes with designs specific to kids. Does this Spark an idea?

Bed

The bed is the central piece of furniture in the bedroom. Kids' rooms are often furnished by bunk beds when more than one child is sharing the space. Some kids' bedrooms combine the dresser with the bed in a captain's bed that includes drawers beneath the mattress. The standard bed includes a box spring and mattress held up by a headboard and four-post frame. Some people prefer to use a daybed or futon that fills the role of a seating surface during the day before folding out to a bed by night. Platform beds eliminate the need for a box spring as the heavy-duty platform provides storage space underneath and a sturdy base for the mattress on top.

Dresser

Dressers are manufactured in different styles and colors to match the decor of the bedroom. Oak or maple, finished or unfinished, black or white, dressers come as individual pieces or as part of matching bedroom sets. Four- or five-drawer vertical dressers work in some rooms, while others require horizontal units with six or eight drawers. Some people prefer vertical furniture components to hold their clothing. Wardrobe armoires hold folded clothes in drawers, but also have vertical spaces for hanging clothes.

Nightstand

A nightstand provides a handy place to keep an alarm clock so that the snooze button is close by. Nightstands are small tables that sit about the same height as the bed. Some are simple tables on which a reading lamp, alarm clock and maybe a book can be placed. Others include drawers to store reading glasses, tissues or books. Many people purchase nightstands that come in a matching set with the other furniture in the room. Some are made of wood, while others may have a metal base and a glass top.

Vanity and/or Desk

Some bedrooms include a dressing table that is commonly called a vanity. It includes a tabletop surface and a chair where a woman can sit to put on her makeup, put in contact lenses and finish her hair. The vanity includes a mirror. Some bedrooms double as a study and might incorporate a more traditional desk in addition to or instead of the vanity.
