Build A Wooden Shoe Organizer

Keep your shoes organized with a shoe organizer.

While many shoe organization products are available in stores, wooden shoe organizers are often expensive, and those made of plastic or other materials often look cheap. A great alternative is to build your own wooden shoe organizer. This offers the sharp look of a wooden organizer without the expense, and allows you to customize its size to fit your closet or other space.

Before starting you should decide what type of wood to use. Pine will be inexpensive, but other types of wood such as walnut will often provide a nicer look. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the width available in your closet or other space. Measure the width available for the organizer and determine how wide the organizer should be. Also measure the available vertical space to determine how many shelves to build into the organizer. Each shelf will need around 8 inches of space with an additional 4 inches added to the total for extra space at the top and bottom.

2. Cut two boards for the side supports of the shoe organizer. The length will depend on how many levels you will be building. One shelf will require 8 inches, two shelves, will require 16, three shelves will require 24 inches, etc.

3. Cut boards for each shelf. Use the width measurement from step one to determine the width for each shelf.

4. Sand the cut edges of the boards and apply wood stain or paint to all boards if desired before assembling.

5. Align the first shelf between the two side boards and drill the wood screws from the outside of each side board into the sides of the shelf at a height of 2 inches from the floor.

6. Drill the wood screws into each additional shelf 8 inches above the shelf below.
