Vector shapes have paths, lines and curves that can be reshaped.
Vector objects created in Illustrator are previewed in color. Objects in Illustrator are comprised of lines, curves, paths, handles and anchor points. The shape of an object is created with paths, lines and curves that can be filled with color or outlined in color. However, sometimes an artist just wants to view the edges or lines of the artwork. Illustrator has a few methods for revealing the edges of objects without fills.
Instructions
Edges - View Outlines
1. Click on the Selection Tool from the Tools panel.
2. Select the object. A bounding box will appear around the object.
3. Go to the "View" menu.
4. Click on "Outline." This will show only the edges of the object without fill.
Edges - With A Stroke
5. Click on the Selection Tool.
6. Select the object.
7. Go to the bottom of the Tools panel.
8. Click on the icon with the diagonal red line to remove the fill from the object. This leaves only a black stroke around the object.
Edges - No Fill, No Stroke
9. Select the object with the Selection Tool.
10. Go to the bottom of the Tools panel.
11. Click on the icon underneath the fill box with the diagonal red line to remove the fill from the object. The "None" icon will leave only a black stroke around the object.
12. Click on the stroke box so it to appears in front of the fill box.
13. Select the "None" icon to remove the stroke around the object. The object's paths will be revealed without fill or stroke.
