Sell A Mink Coat

Sell a Mink Coat

Do you have a simply fabulous, luxurious mink coat languishing in the attic or closet? When grandma's old mink stole isn't getting any wear, perhaps the time has come to sell it. Unfortunately, mink and other furs depreciate in value over time and you are not likely to receive anywhere near the original price. Nevertheless, there is some money to be made. If you are at a loss, here are some ways to get started.

Instructions

1. Take your mink to a reputable furrier. Be warned that many furriers will not buy old furs, no matter how pristine their condition. However, most will offer a trade-in against the price of a new coat.

2. Some companies, such as Ritz Furs and the Chicago Fur Outlet, specialize in buying and selling old furs. If you do not live near them, you can mail them your coat. Phone them before you send anything in and have information regarding the age, size, style and condition of the mink on hand. They will in all likelihood not offer you a quote before they have had a chance to examine the mink in person.

3. Sell your mink at a consignment shop. You won't get your money immediately, but you might get a better price for it.

4. Try your luck on the Internet. Besides putting your mink up for auction on eBay, there are sites, such as furs.com, that allow you to sell your mink privately. If you choose to go this route, it's worth having your coat appraised. Many furriers will do this for a fee.

5. If all else fails, consider donating your mink to charity for a tax deduction.
