Organize A Reach In Closet

Organizing a small, cluttered closet can simplify your daily routine and make dressing a more enjoyable experience. With a number of simple steps, you can transform your closet into a space that best showcases your personal style and wardrobe options. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Shop for items that will help to optimize your unique closet space. Some great things to look for are clear plastic boxes, hanging canvas organizers, streamlined utility hangers, and adjustable closet rods. Keep your particular space and measurements in mind when choosing these items. If you are on a budget, garage sales are a great place to find these additions at a low cost. There are also deep discounts to be found online. Remember that you are going for utility above all.

2. Remove all of the items currently in your closet and create three piles for these items. Create a "keep" pile, a "store" pile, and a "give away" pile. The "keep" pile should consist of clothing that you wear frequently and is seasonally appropriate. The "store" pile should consist of items that you will not be wearing for seasonal reasons or because they are special occasion. The "give away" pile should consist of items which you rarely wear. They may be damaged, or they may no longer fit or feel suitable. Take time to try on pieces of clothing but keep in mind that if you haven't worn a piece in the last few months, it's not likely that you will wear it in the future. Remember, it's better that these items be put to good use by someone who needs them.

3. Install any of the new organizational additions you have collected into your closet space. By using hanging organizers, you can neatly fold sweaters and denim to create more space. Hang all of your "keep" items neatly in your closet. By installing an adjustable rod, you can greatly increase your space for hanging. Using utility hangers will allow you to display multiple items on one hanger. How you choose to organize your hanging items is a personal choice; you may choose to arrange the clothing by type of piece or by color. The most important thing is that your clothes are arranged in a way that makes sense to you and clearly displays your many options. Shoes can be stored in clear plastic boxes and stacked. You will be able to view the shoes and keep them in great condition.

4. Address the clothing, shoes and accessories which have not been included in your new closet. Stow away the items which you placed in the "store" pile. You can store winter coats in a coat closet or special dresses in clothing boxes beneath your bed. Take all of your "give away" pile items to a local donation center or a trade clothing shop which will credit you for your old items, allowing you to shop for new items to add to your new closet.

5. Maintain the organization of your closet by keeping tidy. Every month, do a quick search of the space and remove any items which do not belong. Every season, reorganize the space and incorporate the seasonal items which were previously stored. Enjoy your new space.
