You may think finding a closer Internet service provider will give you a quicker internet connection. This is not the case. The speed of your Internet service provider (ISP) depends on how the signal is delivered to your home, the number of subscribers on the service, the type of services the ISP offers its subscribers and the quality of the software and technology the provider uses. Closest is not always best, but it is usually the easiest way to find Internet services.
Instructions
1. Contact your local cable television provider and verify if they provide Internet services as well. Most cable providers now offer bundled services at reduced rates -- the more services you purchase from them, the less the overall cost. This option may require installation of a cable to the home.
2. Connect with your local telecommunications landline carriers. Most landline telephone service providers also offer digital high-speed Internet services.
3. Review satellite television carriers in your local area, as they also often offer bundled packages that reduce the overall cost of services when combined together.
4. Check your laptop by clicking on the network icon on the bottom of the screen. Any wireless networks in the area will pop-up. Select the one closest to you to receive a better signal. Note that it is not legal to use a wireless network without authorization. Secured networks will require you to enter your username, password or both to gain access.
