Build A New Wardrobe

Freshen your closet and style with a new wardrobe.

A new wardrobe will benefit you by getting rid of the old to simplify and start from scratch with the basics. When building a new wardrobe, it helps to know exactly what clothing you already own to add versatility to your collection. A new wardrobe can be trendy or classic, though a classic foundation lasts through several seasons, saving you money in the end. But there are staples that every woman should own that effortlessly take her outfits from day to night and from work to play. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Go through your current collection of clothes. Separate items you haven't worn in the last year and pieces that no longer fit well or are out-of-date into a pile to take to your local thrift shop, consignment or charity store.

2. Organize what is left of your wardrobe into seasons. You may have a sweater, a coat or a favorite summer dress you can keep and add to your new wardrobe. Keep the seasonal items in a plastic tub in the upper part of your closet within easy reach. As each season changes, swap out the tubs for an uncomplicated system.

3. Sort your shoes, and get rid of any pairs that are outdated. The shape of the heels and toes are giveaways of the shoe's time period. While pointy may be in one year, the next season's fad may be rounded. Keep any that are in wearable condition and possess a timeless look.

4. Add classic staple pieces to your new wardrobe. Staple pieces to build from include a white button-up blouse, a pair of dark jeans in a classic boot-cut, a black A-line skirt, a little black dress, a black blazer, a black or beige trench coat and some plain, well-fitted T-shirts.

5. Keep to a neutral palette of black, white, gray, navy and beige for your staple pieces. These basics give a place to add pops of color as trends come and go. Foundational pieces are the items you may spend more on, obtaining lasting quality for your wardrobe.

6. Complete the staple pieces of your new wardrobe with the right shoes. A quality pair of boots, classic pumps, loafers and a pair of ballet flats can take your outfit from day to night.

7. Use accessories to add flair or trend to your outfits. Earrings, belts, scarves and shoes are simple ways to show off your style without purchasing an entirely new outfit.

8. Replace items every year that are too trendy with a new item. This practice keeps your wardrobe fresh and new throughout the seasons and changing fashions.
