If you're going off to college one of the first things you will do when you arrive is to decorate your dorm room. You are going to be sharing your doom room with at least one stranger and you will have limited space. Consult with your new roommates as you follow these steps and plan decorate your dorm room.
Instructions
1. Find out the dimensions of your dorm room as soon as possible. That way you can begin to look for the right-sized items to decorate your room.
2. Look at floor plans or visit the dorm room itself. Make notes of how much wall space there is. Find out if there is a desk in the room. Determine if you can make the beds into bunks or better yet lofts.
3. Determine what kind of built-in storage is available in the dorm room. Also find out if closet space is available.
4. Measure for curtains or shades if the college doesn't supply them. Also find out if you need to bring your own window air conditioner or fan.
5. Purchase storage cubes to haul your stuff to college. Once you get there you can use the storage blocks for organizers and to keep odd-sized items corralled.
6. Shop for a small refrigerator and microwave if you can have them in the dorm room. These are things you and your roommates can share.
7. Leave unnecessary items at home. Once you've been in school for a while, go shopping with your roommates to get just the stuff you need to finish decorating your room. By that time you can have a good idea of what fits into your tiny space.
