Recycle Carpet Padding

Carpet padding can be reused or recycled to make new padding.

When having your carpets replaced, you also typically replace the padding beneath the carpet. Although it's not illegal to dispose of this padding in a regular landfill, it takes up a lot of space, and the carpet padding can be broken down and reused. If the carpet padding is not stained and is still in usable condition, charities, such as Habitat For Humanities, can use the padding in their projects. However, if the padding is stained or in unusable condition, you will need to locate a carpet recycler. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Habitat For Humanity

1. Navigate to the Habitat For Humanity ReStore Directory web page if the carpet padding is in usable condition.

2. Click on the state in which you reside. You will be provided with a list of ReStore locations, phone numbers and addresses.

3. Drop off the carpet padding at the location most convenient for you.

Carpet Recycler

4. Navigate to the Carpet America Recovery Effort web page.

5. Click "Find Carpet Reclamation Partners" in the upper, right-hand corner of the page. You will be directed to a map with a list of companies who take part in carpet pad recycling programs.

6. Contact the company closest to you and arrange for a drop-off time.

7. Call local carpet installers or companies that sell carpet if the Carpet America Recovery Effort doesn't have a location near you. Inquire as to whether they participate in carpet pad recycling and whether they can recycle your padding. For a fee, some companies will pick up your carpet padding and recycle it.
