Office Organization Ideas Tips & Tricks

You can get more work done in an organized office.

A well-organized office works like an efficient machine. You can get more work done when you know where everything is and those items are easily accessible. A reliable filing system helps you keep track of important documents, but you also need the right desks and shelves to hold larger items and provide a place for everything. Does this Spark an idea?

Color Coordinated Filing Systems

Buy a filing cabinet to go in the corner of your office or closet. Color-coordinate your files. For instance, store family items such as school papers, report cards and birth certificates in red folders with labeled red tabs. If you run a business, store business items such as invoices, client lists and expense receipts in blue folders labeled with blue tabs. This will help you stay organized and keep business, family and other items separate.

A Box For Every Item

Look for decorative boxes with labels on the front.

If you love decorative boxes, you can organize your office to include a box for every item or similar items. Place your boxes on several wall shelves or buy a boxed bookshelf with cubbyholes. This type of bookshelf looks like a large square with several empty squares within, like a checkerboard. Fill your boxes with essential items and label them accordingly. Some boxes can hold note cards, others art supplies or printer paper. Buy several sizes so you can store small and large items.

Storage

Store items that you don't use often, such as a large printer or extra computer, in the closet. Stock your desk and shelves with items you use regularly. Store extra items such as paper and refill them when needed.
