Build A Pantry In A Corner Closet

Keeping food organized is easy with a corner pantry.

A corner closet is the ideal location for a kitchen pantry because of its size. A kitchen pantry should be large enough to store dry goods that will not fit into standard kitchen cabinets but small enough that items will not get lost or spoil. The pantry is also a convenient place to store small kitchen appliances -- such as a blender or food processor. These items need to be close but do not need to take up counter space. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Install shelving in the closet to hold all of your dry goods. Rubbermaid and IKEA both have pantry or closet shelving that works well for food storage. Wire shelving allows for air flow and makes it more difficult for pests to get into the food.

2. Mark the heights at which the shelves will be installed with a pencil and install the shelves with a drill.

3. Organize the new shelves by putting your dry goods into air-tight canisters or plastic containers. The air-tight seal keeps the food fresh while the clear plastic allows you to see when you are low on an item.

4. Rotate food stocks each time you go to the grocery store. Purchase the item when it runs out in the cabinet. Then replace the item from the pantry and put the just-purchased item in its place.

5. Locate bins in the bottom of the pantry for pet food, treats, potatoes and other root vegetables. Drawers can be installed under the shelves for easy access to snacks and juice boxes.

6. Install a mop holder or an over-the-door organizer to maximize your space while keeping cleaning items away from food.
