Organizing clothes by type keeps your closet in order.
Closets provide a space where you can keep clothes and other personal belongings organized and out of sight. While closets are handy, they can become an unsightly mess if you fail to keep up with them on a regular basis. Piles of clothing and other items you shove out of the way can accumulate and result in clutter. If you have the right ideas and maintain your closet carefully, it can look just as good as the rest of your home. Does this Spark an idea?
Go Through Your Clothing
Go through all of your clothing and sort it into piles of what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of. If you have clothing items that don't fit or have gone out of style, bag them up and donate them rather than letting them stagnate in your closet. Keeping old clothes simply leads to overcrowding, when these items could be given to someone who will wear them.
Sort Clothing
Sort all of the clothing you keep so you can find what you need any time you need it. Sort warm-weather and cold-weather clothing separately. Keep your pants and shorts in a different area from your shirts, sweaters and jackets. This way, you can find any item you want without extensive searching. If several people in your home, sort the clothing in different areas for each person.
Organize
There are plenty of organizational supplies to help you save space in your closet. Hang shoe tree on the back of a door instead of piling shoes on a closet floor or in boxes. Place storage boxes with slide-out drawers against the closet wall near the bottom or top to store odds and ends. Install rotating hooks to provide a tidy space for belts, ties and scarves.
Avoid Clutter
Do not throw dirty clothing on the floor of a closet. Use hampers and laundry baskets. Try not to casually store random items in your closet just to keep them out of sight. However, if you must, store these items at the top or bottom of the closet to keep it organized and out of your line of sight. Please boxes on your shelves rather than put them in the floor where you need to walk.
