3. Draw a scaled drawing of the closet space. Write the dimensions on the drawing for reference. Graph paper works well because you can use the squares to help keep the drawing to scale.
4. Make a list of the types of organizational tools you want in the closet. Depending on the type of closet, this might include a closet rod, shelves, drawers, shoe shelves, over-the-door organizers, and pegs or hooks.
5. Draw each organizational component on the closet layout sketch with its dimensions. Try different arrangements until you find the best layout for the items you will store in the closet. Place the items used most frequently in a prominent position within the closet so they are easily accessible.
