Build A Wine Cellar Cabinet

Storing wine properly

A wine cellar cabinet includes a refrigeration unit. They are larger and deeper than non-refrigerated wine cabinets and include several independent temperature controls. According to Wine Cellars and More, wine should be placed in a dark, quiet, cool and humid area of your home. You want to maintain a constant temperature of 55 to 58 degrees Fahrenheit with 55 to 75 percent humidity. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

Design Your Wine Cellar Cabinet

1. Design your wine cellar cabinet. Include the following parts in your design: cabinet doors, back, top, sides and bottom.

2. Design a wine bottle insert. According to Wine Racks America, when you design the wine bottle insert, allow 3 1/2 inches for standard bottles and 4 1/4 inches for magnum bottles.

3. Design an area in the wine bottle insert to place the wine cooling system.

4. Cut structural insulated panels for the cabinet doors, back, top, sides, and bottom. According to HandyAmerican, structural insulated panels consist of expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation sandwiched between two pieces of oriented strand board (OSB).

5. Attach sides to bottom with wood glue and screws.

6. Attach top to sides with wood glue and screws

7. Seal insides of cabinet with mastic or expanding foam sealant.

8. Attach door hinges and weatherstripping to doors, and then hang doors.

9. Add door latch to wine cellar cabinet.

Integrate the Wine Bottle Insert and Cooling System

10. Assemble the materials necessary for your wine bottle insert. Based on your design, the bottle insert can be assembled from wood, PVC pipe, chimney bricks or any other material that is strong enough to handle the wine bottle load. Make sure you provide enough space for the type of bottle you are using.

11. Build the bottle insert separate from the cabinet then integrate and fasten it securely to the inside of the cabinet.

12. Incorporate the wine cooling system making sure to include a hole in the back of the cabinet for the electric cord.

13. Feed the electric cord through the hole, then seal it.

14. Allow all sealing materials to dry well before using the cabinet.
