Ideas For Organizing A Walkin Closet

Need an organized closet?

Organizing a walk-in closet can be a nightmare. There are many ideas for making the closet more user-friendly and the items more accessible. Some things to consider when organizing are jewelry storage, shoe shelves, racks or cubicles, built-in drawers, roll-out pant racks and valet poles, fold-out ironing board, island with dirty cloths hamper and tie or belt racks. Closet organizers can be wood, wire, laminate or even metal and can be purchased at most home improvement stores. There are also many companies that specialize in space organizing you need assistance. Does this Spark an idea?

Storage Boxes

Storage boxes come in a variety of styles, colors and materials. You can also make some by purchasing cardboard file boxes from an office supply store and decorating them. Storage boxes can be used along the top shelf of the closet or stacked on the floor, storing anything from handbags, hats, sweaters, seasonal items, even important papers or photos. The boxes can be labeled as to the contents, for easy access.

Hanging Bars and Drawers

When organizing a closet, the hanging bars' position is important. Clothes should be hung by category, meaning dresses together, pants together, etc. The closet should be designed with the hanging bars to accommodate long items, then double bars, one above the other, for shorter items such as pants on the bottom bar and shirts on the top bar. A set of drawers can also be positioned beneath a hanging bar for folded items. If the walk-in closet is wide enough, a chest of drawers with a seat make a good choice. A dirty-clothes hamper can also be installed in the island.

Shoe Storage

Shoe storage is always a problem area. There are several choices for shoe storage. There are shoe shelves or wire shoe racks that sit at a slant to keep shoes from falling onto the floor. There are also shoe cubicles which are open-faced, divided boxes, big enough for a pair of shoes to fit in each section. Organize shoes according to type such as heels, sandals, athletic, etc. for easy location.
