Design A Clothes Closet

One of the most functional areas in a bedroom is the clothes closet. The only other item in a bedroom probably used more is the actual bed. A well-designed clothes closet can save room, store items and make it easy to stay organized. Planning a design for your clothes closet is a good method to fully use this area of your home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure the height and width of all the walls in your closet. Then measure the height and width of your closet door. Write the measurements down. Draw them on a piece of gridded paper to use in planning the design of your closet.

2. Draw a rectangle on the gridded paper to represent the clothes closet door. Think about how you can use the closet door space. You should have room to hang a tie holder rack and a small shoe organizer or belt holder rack. Draw lines on the door representation to design use the door space to best serve your personal needs.

3. Plan your shelf placement in your closet. The majority of closets are designed with too much space between the hanging rod and the floor. You can lower the hanging rod and use the additional space for shelves and organizers. Measure how far down you can lower the rod in your closet. Draw a line on your grid for the hanging rod.

4. Measure and draw lines for the sections that will be shelves. On the lines that are shelves, write what type of organizer you will place on the shelf. For example, a small, stackable storage box could hold all your tie accessories or belt accessories. Another section of the shelf could be specifically for shoe boxes.

5. Mark a section on the grid paper to plan the lighting for the clothes closet. You need good lighting when you design a clothes closet. It doesn't do any good to have everything organized and not be able to see in the closet.
