Dehumidify A Closet

Closets sometimes obtain humidity because of their placement in homes. If a closet is near hot water pipes or any areas that leak or produce water, it may lead to mold, mildew and can ruin clothes and accessories in the closet. Non-electric dehumidifier products are available with the active ingredient calcium chloride, which attracts moisture. Preparing a simple but effective device will reduce and eliminate humidity in a closet. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Place a small, round colander on a small, round 24 oz. plastic container. Small plastic containers and colanders can be found at any grocery or general merchandise store. The colander should sit on the top of the plastic container, with the bottom of the colander hanging into the plastic container.

2. Pour 1 cup of calcium chloride crystals into the colander. Calcium chloride is used in pools to soak up automotive oils and in a variety of other applications. Calcium chloride crystals are sold in automotive, pool and general merchandise stores.

3. Place the plastic container and colander with calcium chloride on a closet shelf or on the floor. As the calcium chloride attracts moisture, the plastic container will fill with water from the air.

4. Check the plastic container monthly. This method should last one to two months. Repeat the process to continue to dehumidify the closet.
