Good & Easy Hairstyles For Teens

A simple, pretty cut gives you lots of hairstyling options.

Between classes, extracurriculars and socializing with friends, teen girls don't always have the time they'd like to spend on their hair. The best option is a versatile cut (such as one with layers) that enables a girl to wear multiple styles without much effort. There are a few basic tips to keep in mind if you're looking for a simple, easy-to-manage style.

Haircuts

Keep in mind that your hair's versatility often depends on the right cut. For instance, your styling options are limited with an asymmetrical bob, where the hair is short on one side and long on the other. Layers all over, on the other hand, permit styles such as partial ponytails and updos. The point is to choose a cut that you not only like but that you already know you can style efficiently on a daily basis.

Color

Changing your hair color lets you switch things up without having to actually style your hair differently. Natural-looking highlights and lowlights add volume and texture to thin or fine hair, and they can inject any style, long or short, with new life. Another option is a darker color underneath and lighter on top (i.e. black on the underside and medium blond or brown on top).

Posh Ponytails

Most girls with medium to long hair use ponytails to keep hair away from their face. Despite their convenience and simplicity, ponytails often get a bad rep for being too boring or plain; they're often seen more as a last resort than a fashion statement. This doesn't have to be the case. Try using hot rollers or a curling iron to add a few loose spiral curls to your hair before tying it back. Use a comb to lightly tease the top of the hair to give it extra volume as you work it back into a low ponytail. Curl a few wisps of hair around your face for a framing effect and spray to hold in place.

Stylish Headbands

Headbands are perfect for keeping flyaways and bangs away from the face. This is especially helpful when you're growing your hair out. They're stylish, too: Headbands come in a variety of widths, colors and materials, including leather, metallic, plastic and even wood. They're great for creating styles with volume on top of the head as well. Simply pull the headband firmly from the hairline to the top of your head, and then pull it back in the opposite direction to create a pouf in front of the headband, around your forehead. This works on virtually any hair length.
