Organize A Small Utility Closet

Place all cleaning products together.

If you have a small utility closet and feel that it's too small to keep it organized, think again. You can find many organizers and gadgets on the market to create storage in small spaces such as a utility room. Organization saves time and prevents frustration. Although most people clean and organize their home, they often overlook the utility room. However, the utility closet is an extension of your home. Additionally, a disorganized utility area causes you to waste valuable time. Fortunately, you don't have to hire a professional organizer. You can organize it yourself. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Create space in your small utility closet with shelves. Place cleaning solutions on the top shelf, out of the reach of children. If the closet is too small for shelves, one rack will do the job. Use the bottom space for your vacuum cleaner, small ladder or step stool and other large items.

2. Organize items such as trash bags, sponges, rags and dusters in small baskets or stackable plastic containers. Another option is to hang a shoe bag on the wall or on the closet door. Use the compartments on the shoe bag to store small items.

3. Place most frequently used items such as an all-purpose cleaner, furniture polish and rags in a caddy or small bucket. If you need to clean up a spill, just grab the caddy. You don't have to waste time looking for each item.

4. Install pegs and hooks on the wall. Hang as many items as possible. For example, brooms, mops, dustpans and tools can go on the wall. Place labels on the shelves or above each peg or hook and return each item to its designated place after using it.

5. Give any laundry detergent or household cleaners you don't like or use to someone else who can benefit from them. Save the space in your small utility closet for items you absolutely need. Merge two half-bottles of the same product into one, and throw away the empty container. You will create space, and your utility closet will look tidy and organized.

6. Use pipe insulation to store electrical cords. With a utility knife, cut a piece of insulation pipe for each cord. Allow approximately 13 inches for every 6 feet of electrical cord. Fold the cord. Insert it in the tube through the side slit. Place all cords in a box or basket in your utility closet.
