Live in a Studio Apartment in New York City
You're lucky enough to live in the greatest city in the world where you have the whole world at your feet. Yet you live in an apartment the size of a hat box (make that a SMALL hat box). Just how do you make that space livable and still have room for everything you need? Well, in just a few easy steps it can be done! Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Make the most of your closet space by getting some closet organizers. In an apartment where every square inch means everything, an organized closet is very important. If you can't afford the good stuff just go to your local Container Store and buy bins and containers where you can store your belongings for quick and easy access. Also, try and invest in Joy Mangano huggable hangers. The cool thing about these hangers is that they're strong but they're very slim and don't take up a lot of room on your closet rack.
2. Make your apartment as organized as possible. There's an old saying that goes: a place for everything and everything in its place. Look around your apartment and see where there's too much clutter and take some time to get things organized. If you tend to come home from a busy day at work and just throw your clothes in a pile on the floor, try to spend a few hours on the weekend going through that pile and putting everything back in its place.
3. Be as clean as possible. It's depressing to live in a filthy living space, so as often as possible, dust where necessary, clean the toilet and bathroom, and vacuum. If you can afford it, once in a while go ahead and splurge and hire a cleaning lady. A clean apartment looks better and will make you feel better, too.
4. When decorating your studio, less is more. While you may love to collect Japanese silk screens, when you live in an apartment smaller than some people's bathroom, that is not a very good use of space. Look through decorating magazines, choose a style that you like and try to do a smaller version of that look. Make your furniture choices wisely and be sure to measure every square inch of your apartment and picture in your mind where you want to put every stick of furniture. Also make sure you have the measuring tape handy at the furniture store so that before you put money down on that $2,000 sofa bed you will be certain it will fit in your apartment. Also, when choosing colors for your apartment try to choose light colors as this will make your space look bigger and brighter.
