Closet Basket Organization Ideas

Organizing your craft supplies into baskets can make things easier to find.

You don't have to be a teenager or even a messy person to have a disorganized closet. Because they usually have doors or some kind of covering, it's tempting to let chaos rule inside a closet. These days, there are endless possibilities for closet organization, but not all of them work for everyone. Some people have closets dedicated to hobbies, others have a multitude of shoes, and some struggle with their growing collection of health and beauty products. In any case, a closet's contents can be categorized and cleaned up with the use of organizational baskets. Does this Spark an idea?

Sliding Baskets

Either mounted under shelves or in an adjustable column, sliding wire baskets can hold a variety of small objects, folded clothes or even shoes. The benefit of these gliding compartments over traditional drawers is that you can see the contents.

Canvas Baskets

A more appealing, and often more colorful, look than a regular chest of drawers, canvas bins work similarly to regular drawers or to gliding baskets. Cube organizers can be bought and stacked into the closet and canvas baskets with pullout handles are placed inside, one bin to each cubby. They may not be suitable for dress clothes or larger shoes, but they work well for lingerie, hosiery and T-shirts and would be useful in the bathroom or for storing craft supplies.

Stacking Baskets

Useful for things that need to be grabbed but not necessarily sorted through, stacking baskets are closed on three sides (but vented for visibility) and open to the front. They work well for bed linens, bath towels, beauty products and tools. They're also an option for storing canned goods and nonperishable items in the kitchen. Their plastic construction makes them durable and more sanitary than wood or fabric and makes them a possibility for light garage storage.

Over-the-Door Baskets

Expand your usable space by hanging a rack system on the back of the closet door. Either fixed or adjustable, wire baskets hang from an axis and hold less bulky items. In pantries, they can hold things that are too tall for a shelf; in bedroom closets, they can provide shoe solutions. If you find they can be more useful elsewhere in the house, dismantle the hardware and move them to another closet for another purpose.
