Frame A Coat

Frame your favorite coat to protect it from harm.

Framing a coat is a creative way to preserve memories and achievements, as well as create a unique wall decoration for your home's decor. If you have a favorite old coat, a lucky sport jacket or an overcoat covered with an athletic team's signatures, framing it is a decorative solution to keep it out of harm's way while displaying it for friends and family. Instead of hiding your prized coat in the closet or in a crowded chest of drawers, give it the attention it deserves.

Instructions

1. Lay the coat out on a table so that the arms are outstretched. Fold the arms so that they are flush with the coat's sides. Measure the dimensions of the coat with a measuring tape.

2. Purchase a frame that is two inches longer in length and width than the dimensions of the coat. Make sure that the frame you select is at least 1/2-inch deep to allow enough room to accommodate the coat's thickness.

3. Purchase a piece of mat board that meets the dimensions -- or is slightly larger than -- the interior of the frame.

4. Transcribe the dimensions of the coat onto the mat board. Use a metal yardstick and utility knife to trim away any excess mat board.

5. Position the coat, with its sleeves folded flush with the sides, onto the center of the mat board. Place double-sided tape around the top and side edges of the coat to secure the coat to the board.

6. Place the frame and glass on top of the mat board. Hold the mat board securely to the glass and frame, and turn the unit upside down so that the coat, glass and mat board are all facing downward. Place the backing onto the frame and fasten it to the frame using the manufacturer's instructions.
