Organize Your Home Without Spending Any Money

An organized home makes cleaning simpler.

Disorganized homes are difficult to clean and run efficiently. Home organization not only adds to the beauty of your home, it also helps you to complete everyday tasks with less effort. While the several organizing systems available in stores and even life coaches and professional organizers can help, you probably already have what you need to organize your entire home without spending any money. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Organizing Misplaced Items

1. Label a cardboard box for each room of your home. Write the names of the rooms on the boxes with a permanent marker.

2. Visit each room with all of the boxes. Look for items in each room that belong somewhere else. Place those items into the boxes that are labeled for the room where they belong.

3. Take the boxes to the rest of the rooms, doing the same thing each time with misplaced items. When you enter a room, remove items from that room's box and place them where they belong in the room.

Paperwork, Books and Magazines

4. Pile all of your newspapers, bills, magazines and books together on a table or clear area of the floor.

5. Look through the piles, inspecting each item. Place unwanted items in a recycling bin and unwanted books in a pile to donate.

6. File your bills away in a drawer, or hanging filing system if you already have one. Hang upcoming bills on a refrigerator or cork board to keep them clearly visible.

7. Place the books, newspapers and magazines that you are keeping on a shelf or in a bookcase in the room you are most likely to use them.

Individual Room Organization

8. Purge your home of clutter. Visit each room with a trash bag and a box. Throw trash into the trash bag and items that can be donated into the box. Don't forget to include toys, games, movies and broken electronics during your purge.

9. Remove items from drawers, closets and surfaces.

10. Re-place the items where they will be easily accessible and visible, such as on the top of a dresser, shelf, vanity or desk. Place them where you can see them in the place you are most likely to use them. For example, place all of your ink pens in a cup on your desk for easy access. Place items such as lotions and makeup on your vanity or dresser so that you can use them as you are getting dressed for the day. This will save you time and keep you from having to search all over for an item you need. Organize clothing in drawers, separating garment types into designated drawers.

11. Place out-of-season items, such as clothing and bedding, into separate boxes. Label the boxes so they can be placed back into closets and drawers when they are in season.

12. Place cleaning supplies in the rooms they are likely to be used in. For example, keep the oven cleaner in a cupboard in the kitchen and your toilet bowl cleaner under the bathroom sink.
