Decorate Your Room Like Hollister

Hollister uses California-related imagery like palm trees to create atmosphere.

Hollister Co. stores sell a casual, chic mystique that brings the relaxed, seaside atmosphere of California to your wardrobe. Whether or not you like dressing in Hollister clothing, adopting the company's look for your bedroom decor gives your abode all the atmosphere of the clothing retailer's stores. The dark lighting, loud music and California plant life make every Hollister store seem more like a beach house than a clothing retailer, and when you use these same elements in your room, it will make it your own private California-style getaway. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Dim the lights. Instead of lighting your room with harsh fluorescent lighting or overhead bulbs, use just a few soft, low-power lamps to illuminate your space. Hollister stores are traditionally dark inside, so point accent lights at the wall to reflect the light and keep your shades pulled shut.

2. Decorate with large prints of sepia-toned photographs. The washed-out amber portraits of Hollister models that adorn the walls of the store give the store style and mystique. While the photos you use don't have to be as racy as the half-nude models typical of a Hollister advertisement, oversized prints with color correction will capture the tone all the same.

3. Add plant life. Native to California, palm trees are used both in front of and inside Hollister stores to reinforce the image of life near a California beach. One or two potted palm trees, real or fake, will do the same for your bedroom.

4. Spray Hollister-brand perfume in your room. Hollister associates spray down the interior of the store on a regular basis to give the air its signature scent -- doing the same in your room will evoke aromatic memories.

5. Play loud music. In contrast to the easy listening music of department stores, Hollister stores typically play loud alternative rock and pop music throughout the day. Play music by musicians and bands like Gym Class Heroes, Colbie Caillat and Collective Soul to give your room the same rhythm as a Hollister store.
