Coat Closet Ideas
An ideal coat closet is one that is located off of the front door, and provides space for hanging coats, shoes and weather gear like umbrellas or rain boots. Not all homes are fortunate enough to have a large space dedicated to providing guests and homeowners alike with a place to store items on their way in and out of the home. Organization is key to maximize any space, especially a closet. Does this Spark an idea?
Organization
More often than not, a home coat closet has not only the essentials but it also becomes a storage unit for household items throughout the years. Organizing the closet will help you determine what is ready for charity, items to be tossed and essential items that are used on a daily basis like coats, shoes and seasonal gear like snow or rain boots. Keep the closet limited to actual coats and other essentials. Store household items like vacuum cleaners in other closets throughout the home, and store less used coats or clothing in the master closet.
Storage Solutions
Whether the closet space is tiny or spacious, there are plenty of storage solutions to keep things tidy and easy to find. If there is a top shelf in the closet, place two large baskets on the self and store seasonal items like shoes or rain gear when not in use. This will keep the closet looking clean without moving items. Use a shoe rack on the closet floor to place shoes for the family, or stack a wire shelf on the floor to add additional baskets for storing gloves, recyclable grocery bags or pet leashes needed when you head out the door. Add self-adhesive hooks to the inside of the closet door to store purses when not in use, as well as offering guests a place to hang their bags when they visit.
Maximize Space
For those who have limited closet space, it is important to maximize the space you do have. If you need to hang many coats, adding an additional rod will allow you to double the amount of useable space. Many rods simply hang onto the original rod like a hanger, providing you a stable solution for hanging heavy coats. You may remove the existing rod and install it higher up, allowing you to add shelves or drawers underneath coats. Purchase space-saving hangers, which come with additional hanger prongs to place multiple items for every hanger added to the rod, or the cascading style, which allows you to store five or six items that hang vertically for every hanger on the clothing rod.
