Install Bifold Door Hardware

Install Bifold Door Hardware

A bifold door is a type of door that folds in half when it opens. The side that opens gets pulled along a track installed at the top of the door frame. The track has hardware which needs to be installed to the door to keep the door secure in the track when it is opened. The other pieces of hardware that you will need to install are the hinges and the doorknob. The knobs for bifold doors are actually dummy knobs since they do not turn. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Use a pencil to mark the jamb side door 11 inches from the bottom, 7 inches from the top and centered between the two. Hold the doors together the way they will be when opened. Place the bottom of one hinge on the bottom mark with the knuckles between the two doors. Secure the hinge with screws.

2. Attach the middle hinge and the top hinge the same way as the first. Secure both hinges with screws. Place the second door's hinges together with the first door's hinges and secure them with screws.

3. Attach the pivot plates to the top and bottom of the jamb side door. Attach the locking arm to the top of the leading door. The exact location of the pivot plates and locking arm will vary according to manufacturer. Read your owner's manual to find out specific measurements.

4. Measure up 36 inches on the inner side of the leading door on both sides. Drill a hole through the marks with a 3/16 drill bit. Place the knob on the front side of the door and insert a screw through the hole in the back. Tighten the screw to hold the knob in place.
