Master Bathroom & Walkin Closet Ideas

A television hung in the bathroom allows you to catch up on the news each morning.

A master suite is more than just a bedroom; it includes a bathroom and closet with a private entrance from the bedroom only. This allows the owner of a home more privacy from the rest of the family's activities. In recent years, the master bath and closet have expanded to include more amenities and a larger walk-in closet. Does this Spark an idea?

Sink Areas

The sink and counter area of a master bathroom should be spacious enough to accommodate two people comfortably at the same time. Some bathrooms have separate areas for each sink for added privacy. A vanity station can be included for a woman to apply her makeup. Granite counters are desirable for their luxurious style and easy-clean surface. Increase the counter height from the standard 30 inches up to 34 inches for taller adults.

Bath and Shower

Many master bathrooms include both a bathtub and a shower. For optimal relaxation, install a large tub with soothing jets. The shower should be large enough and have multiple shower heads so that two people can use it at the same time. For a contemporary look, use a clear glass shower door and walls. If your bathroom is small, eliminate the tub and opt for a shower only.

Toilet

If space allows, enclose the toilet in its own small room within the bathroom to give extra privacy. If you are more limited on space, build a partition wall to conceal the toilet from view. Add a bidet or urinal in a luxurious bathroom.

Storage

Storage is always a key factor in any room. Plan enough space to keep all the necessary linens, toiletries and cleaning supplies for the entire master suite. A combination of open shelving, cabinets and linen closet will provide space and organization to meet your needs.

Personalize

The style of the master bath should be an extension of the bedroom. Colors, decor and amenities should fit both your personal tastes and your budget. Add wall art and candles. Plants provide natural beauty and some even thrive in the humid environment of a bathroom.

Walk-In Closet

Many master suites now include one or more walk-in closets rather than the old standard of a reach-in wall closet which rarely provides enough space for most couples. To efficiently use the space of your closet, add a second hanging rod below a higher rod in some portions. Add shelving, drawers, baskets and hooks for any folded clothes, shoes or accessories. Use the highest shelf to store off-season clothes in closed bins.

Large Walk-In Closets

An extra large walk-in closet can include an island with drawers, shelves and a flat surface for folding laundry or setting out accessories. You may also have the space for full-length mirror, ironing board or a hamper. A washing machine and dryer are convenient luxuries in a larger master closet.
