Flash games are video games hosted on Web pages for visitors to play. The games are coded using Adobe's Flash platform and, consequently, require you to use Adobe's Flash plug-in for your browser. If you want to play games without using the Flash plug-in, you can find plenty of games that do not rely on it.
Flash Security Concerns
Some people try to stay away from the Flash platform because of concerns about computer security. Flash is a widely used platform, and hackers can profitably exploit its security vulnerabilities. Some of these attacks include gamers unknowingly downloading malicious files, including viruses. Although Adobe regularly releases security patches for Flash, some users prefer other platforms.
"Star Craft II"
"Star Craft II," the sequel to the original real-time strategy game from the late 1990s, is a desktop-based game that does not require Flash to run. You take military command of one of three races -- the Terrans, Protoss, or Zerg -- and fight simulated military skirmishes. You can choose the single-player-campaign mode to play against a computer AI or play online against other players or a combination of players and computer AIs.
"Civilization V"
"Civilization V" is the fifth installment of the turn-based strategy game franchise "Civilization." The game runs on the Steam framework, so it does not require Flash. Whereas real-time strategy games, such as "Star Craft II," focus exclusively on military fights, the "Civilization" franchise makes you deal with every aspect of building a civilization. These aspects include founding towns, establishing and maintaining an economy, handling diplomatic relations with other civilizations, which can be computer AIs or human players, as well as conducting military operations against these civilizations.
"Call of Duty: Black Ops"
The latest release in the "Call of Duty" series of first-person shooters is "Call of Duty: Black Ops." The game was released in both Xbox and PlayStation 3 console and PC formats. The game features both a story-based, single-player mode and a competitive multiplayer mode. In the multiplayer mode, you play against other online players in a variety of different settings, known as maps, with different game objectives.
