Build A Ballet Studio In Your Home

Build a Ballet Studio in Your Home

Anyone can easily make a useful and cost effective home studio for practicing ballet or any other dance workout by following these simple steps. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. First you need to find a space in your home that is not in the main living area or flow of traffic. This studio area is not portable so once it is installed it will be permanent.

2. Secondly, you will need a blank wall area approximately 6 to 8 feet in width and 8+ feet in height. The complete area of floor space needed will be 6 feet by 6 feet from the wall on which you plan to hang your mirror.

3. To make the dance floor you will need to get two pre-made sheets of hardwood flooring. These will be available at Lowe's or Home Depot. They should be 2'X 6' minimum but can be larger if you have the space. You then attach these two pieces of flooring together using connecting hardware and screws. Any person working at Lowe's or Home Depot can show you what the connecting item looks like. You will need 6 connecting pieces. Attach four pieces underneath the floor and two on the ends (side of the floor). You now have a solid sheet of flooring that is 4'X 6'.

4. Next, you will need to varnish the floor with a clear smooth satin stain. This will take about 4 to 6 coats of varnish. Remember to allow each coat to dry for at least 24 hours before you add another coat. When done, you will have a very shiny and somewhat slick dance floor. To finish it off, you will need to add 2 or 3 coats of liquid floor wax. Again, remember to let each coat dry completely before you add the next coat.

5. The next thing you need to install is a full length mirror. This should be six feet wide and at least 6 feet in height. You can get this mirror from a glass company. If you have electrical outlets or light switches, have the mirror cut so these are not covered up. The glass company will have hanging brackets for this mirror. You will need two at the top and three at the bottom. You do not need any of the sides. Hang the mirror at least 6 - 8" above the floor.

6. Finally you need to add the barre. You can use a 3 inch round closet rod or stair rail bar. You will need two closet rod brackets as well. Secure the brackets firmly into the sheet rock wall on the sides of the mirror. The height depends on the height of your dancer. You dance studio can best advise you on this for your home studio.
