Diy Kids' Room Storage Projects

Use shelving and crates creatively for inexpensive diy storage.

With all the toys, stuffed animals, blocks, sports supplies and clothing your child has, it's a wonder you can see the floor. Figuring out attractive and functional storage options for your child's room can be a challenge. Consider several different storage areas to separate out the toys from the muddy soccer balls and clean clothes. Label drawers or cabinets to make clean-up easier on your little one and to teach a little spelling while you're at it. Does this Spark an idea?

Cubbies

Cubbies aren't just for the school room. Pick up some colorful, stackable crates and create a wall of cubbies for toys or clothes. Cubbies offer low storage for kids who may not be able to reach a higher shelf, and they are open, so you can find everything easily. You can make a wall that alternates between cubbies and shelving by setting boards between the crates at different heights. Paint the boards in bright colors that complement the rest of the d cor in the room.

Work Table

Use an old wooden door to create a long work table for your child. Set the door on top of two small end tables and affix it with long nails. Use the end tables for storing art supplies such as pens, paints, paper, ribbon, crayons, glue and feathers. Cover the door with vinyl cloth in fun colors for a washable/wipeable surface. Be sure to include at least two chairs so friends can come over to make art projects too.

Wall Hooks

Pick up some inexpensive wall hooks from the hardware store and get creative about where you hang them. Create an entire wall of hooks and put your child on your shoulders to hang toys, colorful clothing or art projects. Hooks provide convenient storage while offering an attractive and interactive display wall for your child's stuff.

Office Storage Repurposed

Re-use your old office file boxes for tuck-away storage space under the bed. Fill the boxes with winter clothes in the summer to free up some closet space. Tuck them under the bed, both to get them out of the way and to prevent your child from tossing toys under there instead of putting them away.
