Closet Organizers
Wooden closet organizer inserts are a way of breaking up and systematizing your closet by having sections for different items. Full inserts are available for standard size closets, or you can stack multiple closet organizer units and arrange them to fit your closet. Units with shelves, drawers and shoe racks are available. You can also hire a carpenter or build your own custom insert. For hanging clothes, you can equip two or three sections with a rod. If there is room between the top of the insert and the ceiling, use that space to hold plastic storage tubs.
Door Storage Options
The back of the door is too often overlooked as a potential place to store closet items. A wide variety of options are available for using the door. A coat rack along the top, for example, will hold coats and a key rack along the middle will hold belts. Over-the-door storage devices that simply hook over the top edge are another option. Examples include shelves, shoe racks, baskets and hooks. They even come in different materials, including wood, metal and linen.
Curtains
Maybe the entire door is the problem. Sliding closet doors seem to always go to pot, or maybe your door is just unattractive and outdated. A fun and easy alternative to installing a new door is to install a curtain. Remove the door, install a curtain rod or dowel and hang lovely, flowing curtains that reach almost to the ground. You don't want them dragging on the ground as you might step on them. Adding curtains is also a way to bring color and a soft texture into a room.
