Remove Unallocated Space From A Disk Array

Remove Unallocated Space From a Disk Array

A disk array is a disk arrangement such as RAID (redundant array of inexpensive disks) that will enable you to combine the processing power of two or more hard drives. Removing unallocated (not partitioned) space from your disk array can be completed by partitioning the space into a new portion of the disk, providing you with additional storage space and an impromptu location to store your backup files.

Instructions

1. Open the "Start" menu, click on "Run," type in "diskmgmt.msc," and press "Enter."

2. Right click on the portion of the drive that is currently unallocated and select the option to create a "New Partition." Select the option to create a "Primary Partition."

3. Assign the drive a letter of your choosing and input in the size of the drive (in MB).

4. Select the option to use the NTFS file system when formatting (as it is designed to work with newer versions of Windows) and press "Next" to remove the unallocated space from your array.
