Put Mothballs In Closets

Enclose mothballs in garment bags inside the closet.


Mothballs contain chemical insecticides that kill moths, but can be toxic to humans or pets. Therefore, mothball placement is important to the safety of your family. Do not place mothballs in open closets, according to the Oregon State University, as the vapors will travel throughout the home resulting in sickness, including breathing difficulties, headache and nausea. However, you can use airtight containers to place mothballs within the closet to kill clothes moths if you take the proper precautions to protect your family from harmful toxins. Instructions


1. Wash or dry clean clothes you want placed in airtight containers or garment bags. You want the clothes clean before storing.


2. Clean the inside of the airtight containers or garment bags by wiping the interior with a lint-free cloth. Place clothes in the airtight container or garment bag.


3. Read the instructions on the mothball container and use only as directed. Lay the mothballs inside the containers according to the directions. Seal the container or zip the garment bag. If you notice an odor emanating from the container or bag, it may not be sealed properly. Inspect the container and reseal or zip tightly.


4. Store the containers in the closet by placing them on high shelves or hanging the garment bags in the back of the closet.
