Turning A Laundry Closet Into A Mudroom

A laundry closet is a small space that holds a washer and dryer, usually of the stackable variety. Laundry closets may also have some shelving as storage space for laundry soap. If you are moving your laundry appliances to another part of the house, you can convert the space to a small mudroom. This will provide you with extra storage for coats, leashes and shoes, and will keep dirty shoe prints off your carpet. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the washer and dryer. Sweep the floor thoroughly because there may be lint from the dryer on it.

2. Lay down a dark colored, machine-washable area rug. It will hide dirt and mud, and you can easily clean it when it gets dirty.

3. Place a small bench in the closet. This provides a place to set your purse, or sit while you take off your shoes.

4. Hang a floating shelf or basket on one of the walls of the closet. You can put your mail there, or any other items you need to remember to take with you such as homework, files, a coupon folder or your cell phone car charger.

5. Hang one double hook for every member of the family, including dogs, if you have any. Double hooks will hold each person's coat and keys.

6. Hang a calendar in a visible spot in the closet, or on the front door if there is a door. Place an umbrella stand near the door.
