Kitchen Closet Ideas

Kitchen counter-tops look less messy if items are stored in kitchen closets.

Sometimes it is difficult to decide what to use kitchen closets for to utilize the most efficient use of the space. Kitchen closets can be useful to store linen overflow if you do not have large enough linen closets or a multitude of other uses. There are many types of shelving units and organizational tools available at home supply or hardware stores that will make this space a well-organized and useful area. Does this Spark an idea?

Pantry

Add shelving units to your kitchen closet to create an organized pantry. You can use adjustable shelves that will optimize your limited space. Depending on your needs, use closely spaced shelves for canned goods, and taller spaces for larger items, such as canned spaghetti sauce, large jars of mayonnaise, bottles of cooking oil and other items. Cereals and other boxed food items can be stored on even taller shelves. This will result in a closet that serves as an efficient and organized pantry. Alternately, you can install pull-out pantry units in your closet, which utilize almost every inch of the storage space.

Appliance Storage

Many kitchen appliances can be large and bulky and take up a tremendous amount of room in your kitchen cabinets or on your counter-tops. Use widely spaced shelving to create niches for your crock-pot or slow cooker, electric mixers, blenders, deep fryers and food processors. This will result in a cleaner, less messy counter-top and will allow you more space in cabinets for smaller items you use every day. Canning supplies, Dutch ovens, pasta pots, colanders and other large cooking pots and utensils can take up space needed in your kitchen cabinets for dishes and glassware, so this is a useful area to store these bulky items as well.

Cleaning Closet

Store your brooms, mops, vacuum cleaners, ironing board and other large helpful household tools in the kitchen closet. This will keep them out of the way and out of sight. This will save you space in your laundry room or utility room.

Household Chemicals

Cleaning products and pesticides often are stored under the kitchen sink and this can be dangerous, especially if you have small children or pets. It is important to store these types of products on high shelves where children have no access to them.

Wine or Liquor Storage

If your kitchen closet is clean and well ventilated, you can use it for wine storage by adding wine racks or wine storage units in the closet. Alternately, this is a nice hidden place to store your liquor supply away from curious teens and the door can be fitted with a lock if you feel it is necessary.
