Sell Clothing Through A Consignment Shop

Sell Clothing through a Consignment Shop

A good way to make a bit of extra cash over the next few months and clean your closet at the same time is to sell your used clothing through a consignment shop. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. The first step is to find the good shops in your area and get familiar with the type of clothes they sell. When you sell yours you will get the best price from a shop with a specialty often. We have one near us that deals only in maternity and baby clothes. Often a shop will be womens clothing only and in large cities some will deal only in designer or name brand clothes.

2. Sort the clothes you have into categories or seasons. Just like department stores clothes sell best just before or during the season they are worn in. Don't forget accessories. Hats, scarves, jewelery and similar items can do very well. Launder clothing and remove any stains possible.

3. Call the shops and find out what you need to do. Ask about terms. Most shops will pay 40% to 60%. They usually pay once or twice a month. Some shops will not pay cash but give you trade credit for use in the store. Some shops do both. A few shops will not consign but buy what they like outright.

4. Try to price reasonably. Many stores will help you here. They know what sells well. Don't undersell, but don't price things so you get most of it back in 2 months either. The goal is to turn your old clothes into cash or clothing you like better.

5. Keep a record of everything you drop off. Cross things off as they get paid. Make sure you have a copy of the list and a list of the stores policies on payment and terms.
