Install A Diy Wire Shelf Closet Organizer

You can install basic wire shelves to replace a closet unit, like this one.

If your closet or pantry is a little cluttered, you can organize the space on a budget by installing a wire closet organizer system. Wire closet organizers consist of a wide range of shelves that you can use together to create the storage space you want. Shelves can be hung from a tracking bar or feature brackets of their own depending on the system you've purchased. For a look you can switch out as your needs change, install tracking bars which allow you to move the shelves around after they've been installed. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Wire Bracket Shelves

1. Decide where you want your shelves to go. Use a pencil and a level to draw a straight line across the wall where you want to position your shelf.

2. Drill a hole for the first wall anchor on the line near where the shelf will end. Place the anchor provided with the shelf in the hole. Screw the anchor to the wall. Repeat the process with the second provided anchor.

3. Hook the wire shelf onto the anchors. Hold the shelf in its proper position. Attach the shelf supports using the provided brackets. Follow the manufacturer's instructions regarding bracket attachment.

4. Use a level to make sure the shelf is straight and aligned properly. Drill a hole into the wall through the hole at the bottom of the support. Screw the support to the wall. Repeat the process with each of the additional supports.

Wire Track Shelves

5. Draw a sketch of how you want your wire shelf organizational system placed within your closet. Review your sketch to figure out how many tracks you need and where to place them. A track must be placed at the end of each shelf and at least every 3 feet in between, if the shelf is longer.

6. Use a measuring tape to measure the wall of your closet to figure out exact shelf and track placement. Draw lines with a pencil onto the surface of your closet, if needed, to figure out shelf placement.

7. Place the first track against the wall. Use a level to make sure the track is straight and plumb. Drill a hole through the top hole of the track into the wall. Screw the top of the track to the wall. Drill a hole through the bottom hole of the track into the wall. Screw the bottom of the track to the wall. Repeat the process with each of the additional screw holes.

8. Place the second track for the same shelf against the wall. Use a level to make sure the shelf is straight and plumb. Use the level to make sure the top of the two tracks are level. Drill a hole through the top hole in the track into the wall. Screw the top of the track to the wall. Drill a hole through the bottom hole in the track into the wall. Screw the bottom of the track to the wall. Place a shelf in the brackets of the two tracks. Use the level to make sure the shelf is straight and plumb. Remove the shelf and finish attaching the second track to the wall. Repeat the process with any additional tracks.

9. Place each shelf in its proper brackets, once all the tracks have been installed.
