Arrange Clothes Like A Boutique

Check out how boutiques arrange their goods.

It may be time to organize your clothing closet, because getting dressed each morning has begun to take too long. You search around looking for something decent to wear, or you may wear the same few outfits again and again. It may be easier to continue to postpone this task, but try to tackle it, because your closet will be more organized once you finish it. Decide to make the job a pleasurable task. Instead of just giving away a few outfits or rearranging a few things, take your inspiration from your favorite boutique. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Visit a range of clothing shops and boutiques and observe how each store displays their merchandise. Think about what makes you want to try on and buy in one store, but not another. For example, some shoppers find clutter dispiriting and walk away. Decide what particular aspects of the boutique attract you the most. Some stores combine colors and arrange garments that share the same or similar shades, for instance. Others may assemble an outfit, displaying a garment, shoes and accessories together. Study these displays and props.

2. Apply some of these storage and display ideas to your own wardrobe. Shop for items that will help you in organizing your clothing, shoes and accessories. You may decide to buy shoe stands, tie or scarf racks and shelf dividers, for example. Set aside a weekend to arrange your wardrobe. Empty your closet, drawers and shelves. Lay everything on the bed.

3. Put your clothes into three piles: one for throwing away, one for keeping and one for donating to charity. Clear away all of the clothing you have designated for donation and discarding. Clean and dust your wardrobe and closet space. Check the lighting in your bedroom and hang a full-length mirror.

4. Decide on the categorization you are going to use. You may decide to organize your clothes according to color or season or according to what goes together. Line drawers and use lavender bags or cedar balls to scent your clothes and repel moths. Display your garments accordingly.
