Where Is The Pentax Scope Made

Pentax Corporation has been making optics devices since the 1950s. The company manufactures both hunting scopes and spotting scopes, which, depending on the year and model, use components made around the world.

Types

Different divisions of Pentax, from the Pentax Medical Company in New Jersey to Hoya Corporation's head office in Tokyo, make different products. The Sports Optics division of the company produces both hunting rifle scopes and spotting scopes for birding.

Factory Locations

Pentax Corporation is spread around the globe, with 13 offices on four continents and in 11 countries. There was a time when all of Pentax's products were manufactured in Japan, but in 2008, Hoya shifted some of the Japanese production to new factories in the Philippines and Vietnam. Other branches of Pentax exist in Shanghai, China, and in the Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium and the United Kingdom.

Scope Manufacturing

Information about the manufacturing location of Pentax's scopes is a little contradictory. China Wudung Optics Co. Ltd., located in Guangzhou, China, claims to be a Pentax "rifle-scope manufacturer and supplier," but its Pentax Ballistic Plex rifle scope is listed as made in Philippines. Hoya's opening of two factories in the Philippines and Vietnam in 2008 was meant for the optics divisions of the digital camera lines, but it's possible that those factories also produce the optics for Pentax's scopes.
