Ideas To Makeover Your Bedroom

Remove clutter to change the look of your bedroom.

When you want to change the style of your bedroom without making major structural changes, simply makeover existing elements to change the atmosphere. As you plan a new design, consider how you can use the large spaces to create a theme or a focal point to give the room a unified, consistent feeling. Does this Spark an idea?

Eliminate Clutter

For a quick, free way to make your bedroom look different, eliminate the clutter. Clear away jewelry and cosmetics off of your dresser and arrange them in neat organizers. Put shoes and accessories in the closet, remove unsightly piles of books and papers, and make your bed. By taking away clutter, you can remove the obstacles that block the line of sight, making the room seem bigger and more organized. Without various small items lying around, the room design will instantly look more cohesive. Keep your clutter-free design by using organizers in the closets and drawers and storing bigger items in decorative boxes.

Change Bedding

Because the bed takes up so much room in your bedroom, bedding can set the tone for the entire space. To give the room an instant makeover, update your bed. Instead of a standard comforter, buy a down or synthetic spread that will keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. To cover the spread, buy duvet covers, which can be taken off to be washed or changed easily for a quick color change. In addition to standard pillows, put out several accent pillows in bold colors or contrasting patterns or textures for an unexpected look.

Window Treatments

If your bedroom has a window, give it a new look by replacing standard curtains with dramatic window treatments. Choose a treatment that makes a statement and works with the rest of the room. In a contemporary room, you might choose asymmetrical valances for a romantic treatment with a modern bent. If you want to create the feeling of a luxurious boudoir, use floor-to-ceiling curtains for a rich, dramatic look that gives the impression of a large bay window. For makeovers on a budget, update your current curtains by dyeing them a different color or adding ribbon, bead, or embroidered embellishments.

Lighting

Make your bedroom into a relaxing, calming place by updating the lighting. If you have a fluorescent light, remove it and replace with a new fixture, or leave it off and opt for floor lighting instead. Install bedside lamps with low wattage bulbs for a soft, flattering light and use standing lamps to brighten corners. If you have the capability, add a dimmer switch or light board so you can create custom lighting schemes. Complement your lighting with a new paint job: monochromatic for a modern, open feeling, pale yellow for a sunny atmosphere, or a bold accent wall to add a dramatic touch.
