Organize Household Clutter

A well-organized closet gives you a smooth start to your day.

Organizing your home isn't something you can do once and then expect it to stay organized. Organization is a way of living. It is having a certain place for every item. It involves responsibility from every family member to replace items where they belong whenever they are used. The majority of the clutter in your household is things that you no longer need, wear or like, are stained or need repair. Getting rid of unnecessary clutter and storing the remaining clutter properly is the best way to keep your home organized. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Schedule a time to organize a certain area that is cluttered. Even if you only donate 10 or 15 minutes each day to the task, scheduling the task each day will soon have the area perfectly organized. Many organization jobs can be accomplished by setting aside about two to four hours for the job -- for instance, a closet or the kitchen cabinets.

2. Provide clear, plastic storage containers or cardboard boxes and a trash bag for each cluttered area. Label each storage container with "Give away or sell," "Put away," and one labeled "storage." The trash bag is for those items that you can not repair or are too badly stained to use.

3. Remove each item from the area and decide if it can be repaired in order to give it away or sell it. If it is an item you have forgotten about and still will enjoy using, you may want to keep it. Toss away clothing items if they are too large or too small. Chances are you will never be able to wear them, and even if that day does arrive, you may not like the style by then. Repeat the method with each item until the area is organized.. This works for small or large areas, such as a nightstand drawer or an entire kitchen.

4. Use different size organizers to keep the items in order, such as closet shelving or divided drawer sections. Always return the item to its proper space after using it. When you purchase a new knickknack or type of decor, make sure you get rid of one. This will keep your home free of clutter by not adding additional items.
