You'll find many different types of do-it-yourself closet organizer systems available on the market, made from materials including wood, wire and plastic. You can also hire a professional closet organizer to completely transform your closet for you. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Empty the closet. Apply a fresh coat of paint to the walls and ceiling. Select a soft pastel color as a neutral background for your storage area. Allow the paint to dry overnight. Add colorful tile or a throw rug to the floor of the closet.
2. Evaluate the type of items that will be stored in the closet. For a bedroom closet, plan on rods to accommodate the clothes that will be hung on hangers, shelves to store folded clothes and an area to store accessories. If you have a large amount of clothes on hangers to store, place one rod near the ceiling and one in the middle to create two rows of hanging space. Place decorative storage baskets on shelves to hold small items such as socks and underwear. Use a shoe rack to keep your shoes orderly. Place several hooks on the inside walls to hang belts and scarves.
3. Put your items back into the closet. Be sure to hang all hangers in the same direction. Arrange your clothes according to color and type of clothing. Group all blouses, jackets and pants together. Fold all shirts and sweaters and place them on the shelves. Neatly arrange your shoes at the bottom of the closet or on a hanging shoe rack.
