Taking a bare wall and turning it into storage is great way to save space. If done right, the wall cabinet you build can have tons of uses and can be customized for your family's height preferences. Wall cabinets are not just for the kitchen either. A simple cabinet can be built in the kid's room for toy storage, or one can be placed in the bathroom to hide those unmentionables. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Go to your local home improvement center to get ideas. Cabinets can be purchased in kits which you put together with a few hand tools. If you want something a little more custom, you will need to be comfortable using a router drill and table saw.
2. Measure the available area to determine how much space you have and how many cabinets you will need to build.
3. Determine how you want to fill the space to fit your needs. Cabinets come in standard sizes of 18, 24, 30, 36 and 60-inch widths and a standard height of 36-inches for base cabinets.
4. Make a plan of your area. Get a kitchen planning software program or just plain graph paper and draw your plans to scale. Measure carefully since this will be your reference when you build the cabinets.
5. Write down a list of materials and head to the home store. A stop at Lowe's or Home Depot will help in gathering the materials you need. Purchase ready made cabinet kits or the cabinet plans and materials to build custom cabinets.
6. Put the cabinets together according to manufacturer's directions. If you're making your own custom built cabinets, follow the plans for your project. Measuring carefully and assemble the cabinets as instructed.
