Designing the Doors
The first step is to design your doors and closet. Choose the size of the closet and the style of doors. Then make a sketch of the final design. This is what you will work from.
Building the Closet
The next step is to build the closet itself. This is done by framing the closet with 2 by 4s and erecting the frames for the walls. Frame the opening for the doors with care. You will need to account for the width of drywall, and add this to the opening width.
Hanging the Drywall
After the closet frame is done, hang drywall sheets on the walls. Use drywall screws and then finish the drywall with joint compound. Sand and paint it with primer.
Installing the Doors
The sliding doors are installed with tracks along the top of the closet. Set the first track in the center of the overhang, on top of the closet door frame. Fasten it with screws. Now, install a guide on the floor in the center of the closet. Install the doors by setting them inside the metal track and on the guide. The door will hang in the track, braced at the bottom by the guide. They will slide back and forth across the track.
