Get Rid Of Green Checks On A Word Document

Get Rid of Green Checks on a Word Document

Microsoft Word automatically detects words that may be grammatically incorrect by adding a green line to words or sentences with grammatical errors within your document. On the other hand, a red line represents a possible misspelling within your document. Together, Word's spelling and grammar tools work as your editors when you don't have time to look up a word or syntax or capitalize the beginning of your sentence. You can get rid of green checks on a document by changing your Word options in Word 2000, XP and 2003.

Instructions

Global Changes: Option 1

1. Open a blank or existing document in Microsoft Word.

2. Get rid of the green check by turning off Word's grammar checking. Select "Tools" and "Options" from the toolbar, and go to the "Spelling & Grammar" tab in the "Options" dialog box.

3. Remove the check mark from "Check grammar as you type" in the "Grammar" section.

4. Press "OK" to save your grammar settings.

Global Changes: Option 2

5. Right-click on the word or sentence with the green line, and select "Grammar" from the pop-up options.

6. Click on the "Options" button in the "Grammar" dialog box. Uncheck "Check grammar as you type," and press "OK" to close the dialog box.

7. Click on "Cancel" to return to your Word document. Your changes will be applied.

Document-Level Changes

8. Right-click on the word or sentence with the green line.

9. Click on "Ignore Once" to remove the green check from that occurrence only.

10. Remove the green line from all occurrences in the document by right-clicking on the word or sentence and clicking on "Grammar." Then click on "Ignore Rule" for all occurrences within the current document.
