Handbag Storage Ideas

Handbag storage should protect and display your bags.

When storing handbags, seek options that allow maximum visibility for easy selection. As you research storage solutions, look for devices that make the most of your space and which will allow you to keep your bags out of harm's way. Because handbags are often expensive, taking care to protect them will ensure a longer life for your investment. Does this Spark an idea?

Canvas Closet Organizer

For a simple handbag storage unit that allows visibility and easy access, use a canvas closet organizer. Look for a model that has a vertical row of large, square openings that are approximately 1 foot by 1 foot. Most units can be hung using an attached hanger or by securing straps around the pole in your closet. The canvas material will not scratch or damage the surface of your bags, and the wide compartments each will hold multiple bags.

Door Racks

If you are limited on closet and floor space for handbag storage, look for door racks. For the easiest storage options, find a rack that hooks over the top of the door and has multiple pairs of hooks that extend down toward the floor. Use the hooks to hang handbags by their handles, or put empty bags on the hooks so the opening faces the floor. This is particularly effective for lighter bags that will not be damaged when suspended from their handles for long periods; to protect your bags and ensure the security of the rack, hang only empty handbags.

Under-bed Drawers

For out-of-season purses or handbags that you don't often use, make the most of the space under your bed with low-profile drawers. Buy drawers that were made specifically for the purpose; these models will have built-in mechanisms for sliding and easy access. Alternately, store your handbags in clear sweater boxes with snap tops to protect them from dust. Wrap each bag loosely in soft tissue paper to prevent scratches and damage from the hardware on other bags.

Bookshelf

When you have a small bookshelf that isn't in use, use it to store your handbags. Simply line up the bags on the shelves, resting them on their bases and putting them close together for support. This enables you to see all your bags at once and make a quick selection. Arrange bags by purpose, color, or style, depending on how you normally choose a bag to carry for daytime or special events.
