Organize your broom closet so that you can easily get to your cleaning supplies when spills require emergency cleaning or it's time to freshen up the house. You'll save yourself time and aggravation if you can open the door and get what you need right away without fighting off everything else in the closet. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Pull everything out of the broom closet and organize the contents into groupings. For example, long-handled items, such as brooms and mops, could go in one group, cleaning products in another and rags or sponges in a third group.
2. Assess everything you want to store in the broom closet. Typically, this includes the vacuum, mops, brooms and other cleaning supplies. Discard anything you don't use or don't need, such as excess rags or cleaners you never use.
3. Place the largest object in the closet, which is usually the vacuum. This will show you how much space you have around the vacuum and allow easy access to each item.
4. Install hooks and clips along the back or side walls in the closet or on the back of the broom closet door. The clips and hooks can hold brooms, dustpans, mops, dusters, rubber gloves and anything else that fits.
5. Use existing shelves or install additional shelves to hold smaller items that you don't want to lose track of, such as your cleaning bucket, rags and cleaning agents. Store your most frequently used cleansers with the bucket and clean rags. The things you use less often, such as wax or polish, can be stored in plastic containers or bins on the highest or lowest shelves where they are visible but out of the way. Fold cleaning towels and place them on shelves as well.
