Organize A Small Laundry Closet

Keep your small laundry closet well organized.

Laundry is a chore that must be done on a regular basis, so keeping this area of life under control is important. A well organized laundry closet is an essential part of performing this crucial task. If the laundry closet is on the small side, keeping it well organized and maximizing space is even more important. With a little time and preparation, almost any laundry closet can be whipped into shape with just a little bit of time and money. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove everything from the laundry closet except for the washer and dryer.

2. Take stock of everything you have in the laundry closet to gain a better understanding of the type of storage solutions you need.

3. Place shelves above the washer and dryer. Build additional shelving against the wall if space permits, but save some space for larger items, such as a vacuum, broom and ironing board, that you may need to store against the wall.

4. Place larger items, such as jugs of laundry detergent, on the shelves. Group similar items together. For instance, if you tend to buy laundry detergent in bulk when it is on sale, place all the laundry detergent together in a row with the most recently purchased detergent in the back.

5. Place smaller items, such as clothes pins, laundry stain sticks and dryer sheets, in baskets, and place the baskets on the shelves.

6. Install hooks on the wall that you can use to hang up the ironing board. Some organizing stores and department stores sell hooks that are made especially for hanging up an ironing board, but if those are not available, any large hooks will work. Hang up the ironing board on the hooks, and place the iron on a shelf above the washer or dryer.
