Ensure Moths Don'T Eat Your Clothes

Use a few tips to stop moths from eating your clothes.

Blame the webbing clothes moth or casemaking clothes moth for those holes that have appeared in your brand-new wool sweater. These types of moths live in closets and may feed off your clothing. According to "The New York Times," the problem is not adult moths but rather their larvae that spend about 10 days of their life cycle eating your clothes. Keep up with your daily housekeeping and try a few different moth prevention methods to keep these pests away from your clothes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Wash your clothes in the hottest water they can tolerate. Take clothes that are dry-clean only to the dry cleaners. If you are unable to clean all of your clothes, at least take your wool, cashmere, leather or any other animal-based type of material and have them cleaned.

2. Vacuum your entire closet, including all surface areas such as shelves, to remove moth eggs and larvae.

3. Use sticky moth traps, which contain moth pheromones and will attract moths to them. Place these traps in your closet or clothes drawer.

4. Seal all of your animal-based clothing in sealed clothing bags or airtight plastic containers.

5. Place clothing in a cedar-lined chest. The cedar fumes are toxic to these types of moths. However, this may not be the most effective solution because the cedar smell will eventually disappear.
